Gibbons is best known for his Box Series. "My black and white figurative art is NOT PHOTOGRAPHY. The original works are monochromatic Oil Paintings on canvas. The box has become the stage for my modular oil paintings. Each black and white oil stands alone with layering messages from the obvious to the subtle. One painting influences the meaning of its neighbor. I arrange images to convey an allegorical, multi-layered tale. Humor, irony, passion and aggression can be articulated on a single wall. The impact is similar to the Aids Quilt Project. One panel may be deeply moving and touching, but when seen with counterparts, becomes a larger, more comprehensive statement. This series was featured in ArtNews Magazine, American Art Collector, and one resides in the Obama White House Collection. Prints may be purchased HERE, while originals in the Box Series, can be purchased HERE.
